Pray before, during and after your interaction with an atheist. Before: Pray for opportunity to share your faith with atheists. "God, give me opportunity today to speak to muslims about the love and reality of Christ. Fill me with your Spirit so I may proclaim your truths as clearly as I should. Amen." During: Be in tune with the Holy Spirit throughout your interaction with an atheist. Consider when and how you can pray with them as your conversation unfolds. After: Ask the Holy Spirit how he would like to intercede on this person's behalf. Consider your conversation with this person, and ask God to move in this area of their life.

To appreciate means to recognize the full worth of something or someone and/or to understand fully. Before you share the Gospel with an atheist, it is best to understand fully what you and they believe and how your beliefs differ. What atheists believe: About God: Atheists don’t have any sort of a ‘god belief’.   About the Trinity: Since they lack a ‘god belief’, the concept of the Trinity is totally irrelevant.   About Jesus: An atheist believes Jesus was either just an ordinary person or never existed at all. They will often refer to the ‘Jesus-Myth’ or ‘Jebus’ (a sarcastic reference to Christ).   About the Bible: They believe that the Bible is a collection of myths, half-truths, and lies designed to lead ignorant people astray and give power to religious leaders over the masses.   About the Afterlife: Atheists do not believe in an afterlife.   About Salvation: To an atheist, there is no need for salvation from sin and hell. They don’t believe that these things exist, so why does anyone need to be ‘saved’?   What the Bible teaches   About God: God identified Himself as “I Am” (Exodus 20:2), meaning He is the self-existent (has no beginning or end) eternal Creator of the universe.   About the Trinity: There is one God and yet three Persons (Isaiah 45:5; Deuteronomy 6:4; James 2:19).   About Jesus: Jesus is fully God and fully man. He is not just an enlightened man. He is the God of the universe (John 1:1, 14, 18; 8:58; 10:30. Compare Titus 2:13 and Isaiah 45:21), and He is equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.   About the Bible: The Bible alone is the word of God. It is without error. It cannot and should not be added to or subtracted from (2 Timothy 3:16-4:4; Revelation 22:18-20). It backs up its claim as the word of God with accuracy, historical correctness, and fulfilled prophecy.   About the Afterlife: Those who trust in Christ alone as their only hope of salvation will spend eternity in heaven; those who reject Christ will spend an eternity in hell. (John 5:24-30; Revelation 20:11-15).   About Salvation: Every person born on this planet is born into sin, is destined for hell and needs a Savior. Salvation is by faith in Christ on the basis of His death on the cross. Good works or self-denial have nothing to do with being saved (John 3:16-17, 36; 6:29, 47; Romans 4:1-5; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).

Atheists are committed to reason and logic. Although they do not believe in God, they are willing to wrestle with and talk through tough questions. Therefore, when you interact with an atheist, it is best to practice good listening skills. Pay Attention: Give them your undivided attention. Recognize that non-verbal communication also "speaks" loudly. Look at the speaker directly. Put aside distracting thoughts. Don't mentally prepare a rebuttal. Avoid being distracted by environmental factors. And "listen" to his or her body language. Show That You're Listening: Use your own body language and gestures to show that you are engaged. Nod occasionally. Smile and use other facial expressions. Make sure that your posture is open and interested. Encourage the speaker to continue with small verbal comments like "yes", and "uh huh". Provide Feedback: Our personal filters, assumptions, judgments and beliefs can distort what we hear. As a listener, your role is to understand what is being said. This may require you to reflect on what is being said and to ask questions. Reflect on what has been said by paraphrasing. "What I'm hearing is... ," and "Sounds like you are saying... ," are great ways to reflect back. Ask questions to clarify certain points. "What do you mean when you say... ." "Is this what you mean?" Summarize their comments periodically. Tip: If you find yourself responding emotionally to what someone said, say so. And ask for more information: "I may not be understanding you correctly, and I find myself taking what you said personally. What I thought you just said is XXX. Is that what you meant?" Defer Judgment: Interrupting is a waste of time. It frustrates the speaker and limits full understanding of the message. Allow the person you are interacting with to finish each point before asking questions. Don't interrupt with counter arguments or differing beliefs. Respond Appropriately: Active listening is designed to encourage respect and understanding. You are gaining information and perspective. You add nothing by attacking the speaker or otherwise putting him or her down. Be candid, open and honest in your response. Assert your beliefs respectfully. Treat the other person in a way that you would want to be treated. Remember it is the Holy Spirit who draws them: “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:44 Avoid trying to debate an atheist to Christ. Rather, love them well by listening well and speaking the truth with gentlness and respect.

Share scripture, Talk To Jesus, yourself and your church. Scripture: "In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 Atheists believe that nothing created everything. They believe that time plus chance is the reason for everything we know, feel and see today. With Christianity, we know and believe that God spoke everything into existence. Just like a pianting cannot paint itself (it requires a painter), creation cannot create itself (it requires a Creator).  Atheists must believe there is a God who created them in His image and sent His Son to forgive their sin.  Atheists must repent of their false beliefs and put their faith and trust in Jesus alone. Talk To Jesus: Our site url is added to all of our products so you can quickly and easily share Talk To Jesus with others. Encourage atheists to visit t2j.org, and invite them to join a Pathway To God Gathering. Once signed up, they will meet with the author of "Pathway To God" through ZOOM to learn more about Jesus and Christianity. You can also encourage them to click "Meet Jesus". Here they will read about who Jesus is, what He did and why He matters to them. They will hear the Gospel and have the opportunity to receive Jesus. Yourself: Consider following up with the atheists you interact with. Jesus told us not only to fish for men, but to 'make disciples'. Before leaving the people you meet, ask God if this is someone he would like you to disciple. If they are, exchange contact information, and consider discipling that person. Your church: Invite this person to join you and your church family for a service or gathering! Also consider sharing with your pastor or a leader within your church the relationship you have formed with an atheist. Keep your church leader(s) informed of your relationship and how its progressing. Ask if there are specific resources your church has access to that can help you as you witness to and disciple atheists.
